Markforged Composite 3D Printer Materials

Composite parts are reliable enough for every stage in your production cycle and robust enough to replace machined metal parts.

Onyx (outer filament material)

Onyx filament is nylon mixed with chopped carbon fiber, creating a high-strength thermoplastic that features excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance and surface finish. Printed alone, it is 1.4x stronger and stiffer than ABS, but can also be reinforced with any continuous fiber material.

  • Flexural Strength: 81 MPa

Onyx FR (outer filament material)

Onyx FR filament has similar properties to standard Onyx, but is a Blue Card certified UL94 V-0 material. This material is ideal for applications which require flame-retardant, high-strength and low-weight properties.

  • Flexural Strength: 71 MPa

Onyx ESD (outer filament material)

Onyx ESD is a static dissipative safe variant of Onyx - meeting stringent ESD safety requirements while offering excellent strength, stiffness and surface finish. It's best used in applications that require ESD safe materials

  • Flexural Strength: 83 MPa

Carbon Fiber (internal reinforcement fiber)

Carbon fiber has the highest strength-to-weight ratio. At 20x the strength, it is strong enough to replace machined aluminum parts at half the weight.

  • Flexural Strength: 540 MPa

Carbon Fiber FR (internal reinforcement fiber)

Carbon Fiber FR is a flame-retardant varient of Markforged's unique, ultra-high-strength Continuous Carbon Fiber.

  • Flexural Strength: 540 MPa

Smooth TPU 95A (outer filament material)

Smooth TPU 95A is a rubber-like material that when used with Markforged composite printers offers product developers and manufacturers the ability to create flexible, impact-absorbent parts on demand.

  • Flexural Strength: 26 MPa

Vega (outer filament material)

Vega is Markforged’s first engineered high temperature plastic — an ultra high-performance carbon fiber filled PEKK for 3D printing critical aerospace parts. Vega can be reinforced with continuous fiber to achieve aluminum strength for replacing structural, non-critical aerospace components.

  • Flexural Strength: 315 MPa

Fiberglass (internal reinforcement fiber)

Fiberglass reinforcement offers high strength at an accessible price. 3D printed fiberglass is 11x more rigid than ABS, resulting in robust parts perfect for jigs, fixtures, functional prototypes and some end use parts.

  • Flexural Strength: 200 MPa

HSHT Fiberglass (internal reinforcement fiber)

High Strength High Temperature (HSHT) Fiberglass has more than 2x the strength of standard fiberglass and delivers the highest impact resistance and heat deflection temperatures of any Markforged fiber. This material also offers high elasticity and is 29x more impact resistant than ABS.

  • Flexural Strength: 420 MPa
  • Heat Deflection: Up to 302° Fahrenheit

Kevlar (internal reinforcement fiber)

Kevlar fibers are tough and lightweight. They can bend further than any other fiber. Parts built with Kevlar reinforcement can take a beating and are 8x more impact resistant than ABS. With low density and high durability, this material is perfect for applications that involve significant motion or interfacing with production parts.

  • Flexural Strength: 240 MPa

Onyx FR-A (outer filament material)

Onyx FR-A is a flame is a flame-retardant short carbon fiber filled nylon designed for use in applications where parts must resist burning.

  • Flexural Strength: 240 MPa

P-PLA (Precise PLA)

Precise PLA is our easy-to-print plastic for precision concept modeling and validation. Precise PLA 3D prints without warping and comes in a variety of colors

  • Colors: Black, Gray, Green, Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow, White

ULTEM™ 9085 (outer filament material)

ULTEM™ 9085 filament is Markforged's first high temperature printing polymer. It's and extremely durable thermoplastic that exhibits excellent flame, smoke and toxicity (FST) characteristics.

  • Flexural Strength: 105 MPa
